Hello everyone,
My name is Steve Gensheimer and I guess I am the newest member... or pledge... to the NJRC. I found Max's e-mail address on the kit car builder magazine website, so I shot him an e-mail and he pointed me to this forum.
A little bit about me; I was born and raised in NJ, I grew up in Roxbury, and now I live in Florham Park. I spent some time working at Picatinny Arsenal, but currently I am a Service/Quality Engineer for DENSO in Pine Brook (guns were fun but I like working in the auto industry better). Now, I spend my days doing quality investigations, reporting, and analysis for our German customers, BMW, Benz, and VW.
Why am I here? I don't own a kit car. I've never built a car. But I love working with my hands and being able to create something. I love cars too, and I've always dreamed about being able to build my own. I started with plastic models, then radio controlled car kits, but they didn't last long enough... and I couldn't really drive them. I think they recommend build times of about 30 hours, but I just couldn't put it down, so I would have it done in about 10. Once I start I just don't want to stop.
I grew up being exposed to cars, changeing the oil, replacing brakes, shocks etc... my brother is a technician at Mini... so I do have a limited set of skills, but I don't think I have the ability to build a car on my own (I've never touched a welder before, though I'm dying to get my hands on one). I want to learn as much as I can so that once I have the tools, money, and space to build a car, I will at least have some idea of what I'm doing and what direction I'm going! And what better way to learn than from a group as experienced as yourselves?
I want to learn as much as I can so I hope that there is a lot of information that you guys have to offer, but I'd also like to think that I can bring something to the table. I'm not quite sure what that is yet... but maybe we will find out in the future. I can make a killer grilled cheese with bacon and tomato... I do have my Mech. Eng. degree from Rutgers, so I'm fairly up-to-date on the latest and greatest in the engineering world. If you have an idea for a chassis bouncing around in your head, maybe we can put it in a 3d modeling program and do a finite element analysis on it? or maybe not... that takes a lot of computing power.
As far as ideas of kits/cars that have gone through my head... first love was the Caterham Super Seven...lately I've had the Ultima Can Am set as my background on my computer... but then I saw a picture of Max's speedster.... soooo who knows...
Perhaps I have rambled on enough. I'm very excited to be part of this group, and I look forward to talking, and hopefully meeting, with you guys in the future.
